USMLE Step 3 Prometric Practice Test: Changes to Passing Standard

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) has recently announced changes to the passing standard for Step 3, which will impact examinees testing on or after January 1, 2024. The USMLE Management Committee, comprising a national group of physicians and public members, reviewed and decided to increase the passing standard from 198 to 200 points.

This two-point increase in the passing standard will apply specifically to Step 3 examinees testing on or after January 1, 2024. Additionally, most Step 3 scores will be reported within four weeks of testing, starting from March 13, 2024.

For those who need their Step 3 scores before this date, it is recommended that they complete the exam no later than December 31, 2023. However, please note that there will be no USMLE Step 3 examinations administered between January 1-14, 2024.

The necessary annual modifications to the test item pool will result in a delay in reporting scores for examinees who test in early 2024. Scores for these examinees will be released on March 13, 2024.
